Default How do you guys organize fonts?

Hello,

I'm new to Fonts, and have started collecting, what is the best way to organize fonts? Foundry? Type? Etc?

Any programs that I should be using to maintain my collection?

Thanks!

I am about to start organizing my fonts again so wondered this same question.

In the end I have decided to break them in groups of Pc and Mac, with a seperate folder in each for converted fonts. From there I break them into foundrys.

Using mostly a mac platform I plan to (but am yet to) use Linotype Fontexplorer X to then ceate groups by style.

Always interested in what systems others are using

The best way it's your own. Some people organized fonts by the scheme:
Code:
<FoundryName>
--<TypefaceName>
----<Format> Mac T1, Win T1, Mac TTF, Win TTF, OTF
I also add to the <TypefaceName> some additional text, about version, or, if it extract, author of extract like
Code:
[pdf-x acnapyx]
.

I use Linotype Fontexplorer X on my mac with a seperate folder just called fonts in my user folder. Thus I can activate them when I need to I keep them organised by foundry otherwise it will get too confusing. As far as pc fonts I never keep them or install them . . . I just use Trans Type Pro to either convert pc to mac or mac to pc if I need to.

or...you can organize them by name:

Lazy Vampire
JEVS
Novac
etc.....LOL

Just kidding..I couldnt resist. I "try" to organize them by foundry
but at times it gets nuts because one font can be from different
founderies. Of course, the above posts offer good recommendations
