Trendy Extreme-Contrast Photo Effect aka Dragan/Fiscus/Hill effect
Check these artworks before: _www.andrzejdragan.com/ _www.fiscusphoto.com _www.davehillphoto.com/ Hill/Fiscus effect: 1. High pass filter(value 2-6) 2. Blend mode: vivid light 3. Merge visible & duplicate layer 4. High pass (Value 5-8) 5. Blend mode: Color 6. Opacity 40-60 % 7. Merge visible & duplicate layer 8. Surface blur (Values: 3 and 23) 9. Layer mask - reveal local texture 10. Merge visible & duplicate layer 11. Unsharp mask: - Amount: 100 - Radius: 40 - Threshold: 0-2 Dragan effect: 1. Duplicate background layer. Turn layer off. 2. Add new layer and name it Multiply. Change the blend mode to multiply. 3. On the duplicate background layer: Select>Color Range. The color range fuzziness slider should be cranked way up. Select the darker colors of the picture. 4. With the selection active, go to the new blank layer and fill with a dark green. The colors listed on the video were: R=53 G=48 B=16. These may or may not work on your picture. 5. Deselect It should be noted that the author of this video did not use adjustment layers for his work. It is assumed for the purpose of this written guide that the artist is using adjustment layers and merging down when the layer is worked to his/her satisfaction. And until noted, the adjustments are to be made on the background copy. 6. Levels adjusted with the dark slider moved right and the white slider moved a little to the left. 7. Curves: A classic S curve 8. Hue/Saturation: Desaturate slightly and move the hue slider slightly to the right. 9. Unsharp mask. The video settings were 340, 0.4, and 0 respectively. 10. Variations: Add more yellow and darker 11. Hue/Saturation: Desaturate a little bit. 12. Levels: Black slider moves to the right and the White slider moves to the left. The Gamma slider adjusts to the right. 13. Hue/Saturation: Desaturate some 14. Burn tool set at 30% is used over the darker portions of the picture. Use the Alt key to switch to the Dodge tool to move over some of the lighter portions. 15. Move the original Background to the top of the stack and name it Eyes. Add a layer mask and remove all but the pupils of the eyes. The video uses the erase tool and no mask. 16. Tweak the eye layer by using clipping paths: A. Levels: Move the dark slider inward to the right and the white slider inward to the left. B. Hue/Saturation: Desaturate and change the hue slightly to make eye color more in tune with the rest of the picture. C. Tweak mask so that just the irises are shown. D. Brightness/Contrast: Take the brightness down a bit and add contrast. 17. Back to the background copy and tweak the Hue/Saturation, taking the saturation down again. 18. Tweak the eye layer by using the Hue/Saturation and taking the saturation down again. or Step 1 a. Copy the background layer and set the blending mode of the new layer to “soft light” b. Apply shadow/highlight on that layer Step 2 a. Go to your Channels patlette b. Select the blue channel (CTRL+3) -windows- c. Select all (CTRL+A) and copy the selection (CTRL+C) -windows- d. Select the RGB channel (CTRL+~) -windows- e. Go back to the layer patlette and paste the just copied layer (CTRL+V) -windows- f. Set the blending mode of this layer to multiply e. Dodge and burne to accentuate wrinkles and shadows Step 3 a. Aplly a highpass filter on the blue channel layer we just worked on to strenghten light (wrinkles and shadows) Step 4 a. Flattern image b.
