My new iMac uses an external modem for my dial up connection. Every 40 minutes or so, a screen pops up and asks if I want to stay connected to the internet. Is there a way to go into the modem application(?) file and tell it to stay connected until I sign off? Never had this problem with the internal modem on my G4. Also having problems downloading anything. Would this be a problem with the modem or the Safari software?

try going into your system preferences, then select "network" on the third row. once this opens, identify how you are connecting to the internet. it sounds like you have the cable going from the modem directly into your computer. if this is the case, make sure "ethernet" is selected on the left. once you have whatever method you connect to the internet selected, make sure location is set to "automatic". You can find this in the upper middle where it says "location". Make sure to apply the settings. Let me know if this worked for you or not. |
